Factors to consider in a whole house design & remodel
There has been a trend in the past several years of maximizing homeowner investments in remodeling several rooms at once, or, even an entire floor. Short of a complete teardown, this "whole house" approach really can leverage labor and materials through economy of scale metrics in every aspect of the remodeling process.
Think of a home as a human body. It has a skeletal structure. We might say it has "good bones." It breathes, and exchanges heat and air. And it has flesh so to speak, cosmetic surfaces such as countertops, flooring, walls, and ceilings. These things are all connected with one another and so when we change one of them, we often have to consider changing others. Changing the floor in the kitchen often leads to changing the flooring in all the connecting rooms. After all, nothing looks worse than the outdated old next to the updated new. Try putting new Cambria countertops on top of old honey oak cabinets. Yikes!
