A Kitchen Revelation in St. Francis

Retired St. Francis homeowners finally get the kitchen they've always wanted. They just didn't realize how special it would be!

Project Summary

This retired couple had finally had enough of this old, dark, remarkably inefficient kitchen.  Having remodeled with us before, they trusted Murphy Bros. to help them solve a host of function and aesthetic issues.

As with all our remodels, the main goal is to make life better for our clients, not just different.  When asked that question in the video below, both had their own very personal story to tell in answer to that question.  Hers was probably the most quotable:

"For years and years I used to hate cooking. I've got this new kitchen now and you know what I found out?  I don't hate cooking, I hated my kitchen!"

Gone are the dark, cramped cabinets and bulky appliances, replaced with streamlined closed storage solutions, a large new island, and a separate bar area. The layout now enhances workflow, with more counter space, and offers more effective organization. The footprint hasn't changed, but the room and usefulness has been greatly improved.

The overall aesthetic blends clean lines, pop of color, and timeless finishes with fresh materials, creating a kitchen that’s as beautiful as it is practical.

How did this remodel make their lives better?  It's all in this short homeowner video.

COMPARISON: Before & After—from left, formerly the dark oak kitchen. Right: The new kitchen island, cabinets, flooring, lighting.  The stove has been relocated from the island to perimeter wall next to the refrigerator, where it really belongs in this counter-starved space.

Before

These photos show the extent to which traffic flow was restricted and surfaces were so dated.

After

AFTER: They go by many names, but this finger-lift mixer station stowes away effortlessly in the lower cabinet.  When you are maximizing space the last thing you want is to give up precious countertop space to an appliance.
AFTER: Cabinets are a traditional overlay, with uppers finished in SW Agreeable Grey and lower cabinets, island in SW Still Water. Island Cambria is Ainsley.

AFTER: Hardware Top Knobs Torbay, flooring: Adura Kona Coconut.
AFTER: Every door hides a different storage capability.
AFTER: Pantry wall.
AFTER: Coffee bar with Riad white ceramic backsplash.
View from living room back towards addition. Yes, a dining room table will go underneath the three Marvin transom windows, if it ever comes!
AFTER:  Granite Glass inserts.
AFTER: Cambria Ainsley.
AFTER: More cooking pan storage over refrigerator.
AFTER: Corner cabinet storage, finished in SW Agreeable Gray.
