The Wow Bathroom

It's how you feel when everything changes for the better

Carpenter Ivan Sass

Project Summary

When Joan and Dave built their home more than a decade ago they were completely satisfied with every room. As the saying goes, “That was then, this is now.” Surfaces become outdated over time but even more significant is that as we journey through life our needs for functionality change as well.

Newly remodeled master bath. Note dual shower heads.

“The Jacuzzi was great in those early years and we used it all the time really,” recalls Joan. “But at our stage in life it no longer made any sense to be climbing in a out of that huge thing.”

“Since my clients decided to stay in their home instead of move, they really wanted to invest in more than just upgraded surfaces. They also wanted some universal design considerations and to solve some functionality issues,” recalls Murphy Bros. designer Cherie Poissant.

Out came the Jacuzzi, and in it’s place we created a large low threshold shower with a bench seat, multi-use hardware and grab bar. “That seat was really important for both of us, but especially to those of us that shave our legs,” remarks Joan, “And that’s not Dave just to be clear.”

New double sink vanity, dressing table with LED mirror, universal design shower hardware.

The old shower was replaced with a built-in dressing vanity complete with easy access storage for makeup and other items. “I really like to keep things clean and simple—no clutter on the counter tops or anywhere,” states Joan. “And honestly I always wanted a dressing table.”

Recalls our 17-year veteran designer Poissant, “It was obvious from the start that they really wanted clean and simple lines, which we accommodated right down to the under mount sinks and single handle faucets in chrome.”

No master bath remodel would be complete without a few luxury items. Let’s just say if your commode comes with a remote control, that probably qualifies.

So how do you know when you’ve design the perfect space for a client? Simple. Joan sums it up in a word. “When you turn the corner out of our bedroom and walk into the master bath the only word that comes to mind is Wow!”

We agree.
