Universal Design Master Bath remodel in Chanhassen

If we had a dime for every monster jacuzzi we removed…

Project Summary

The beauty of the stand-alone tub is never more apparent than when it replaces a large, cumbersome, and seldom used jacuzzi. Such was the case in this second-floor master bath remodel that also involved a new, slightly larger shower with a zero-clearance universal design shower threshold.

BEFORE: The dated look of a massive built-in Jacuzzi, honey oak vanity with a busy granite top.
AFTER: It's not often that you see carpet in a bathroom, even a partial use. We installed heated floors, replaced it all with Del Conca Quartzite porcelain tile and married that with a Riveria stand-alone soaker tub and a warmer paint color.

Before

BEFORE: Dark and dated, tiny shower is out weighed by massive jacuzzi.
BEFORE: Honey oak vanity from shower perspective, with half-wall separating commode space from the rest of the bathroom.

After

“Again, the honey oak is everywhere in this home and the bathroom is no exception,” says Murphy Bros. Design/Build Consultant Theresa Mann. “So the goal here was to lighten everything up, which we did by using a mix of grey tones and softer whites for contrast. Those subtle changes literally transformed the entire complexion of the space.”

AFTER: The shower footprint was enlarged by about 6 inches. The large glass door was removed and replaced with a zero-clearance threshold, a major component of a universal design. We added a bit of glass back as an aesthetic partition which also serves a privacy function.
AFTER: Custom vanity with 24" deep drawers, deco toe kick, flat panel doors, painted in Magnolia True White MAG00.
AFTER: Shower insets and fixtures (rainfall shower head). Body tile: Oldy Tile - White (random texture); Accent tile: Avanti Penny Round 2 Mosaics-Sand
AFTER: Universal design zero clearance shower threshold and half-wall separating commode from the rest of the bathroom with heated floors throughout.
AFTER: Shower floor drain.
