The national remodeling magazine, Qualified Remodeler, recognized Murphy Bros. Designers & Remodelers last week with its 2015 Master Design Award for Specialty Rooms/Niche Spaces. The Eden Prairie project was among more than 300 that top remodelers entered this year in the nationwide competition for the best remodeling projects.
The gold-winning project was the basement wine room Murphy Bros. designed and built for John Dockter and Cindy Vavra. The MN Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI-MN) recognized Murphy Bros. as its Contractor of the Year (Interior Remodeling under $150,000) for the project last fall.
The clients congratulated Murphy Bros. and designer Cherie Poissant for another well deserved award. "The wine room is the perfect winter evening getaway. When we close the door, turn on some soothing music, and open a bottle of wine, it's like we are wisked away to another place and time - a mini vacation," John remarked. He and Cindy also like to use it for entertaining and parties.
"I really admire the beauty and craftsmanship that Murphy Bros. created, and enjoy being surrounded by all the wonderful designs and materials when we sit down for a glass of wine," John said.
The project features a brick barrel vault ceiling, stone walls, an arched door, a wet bar and custom racks for displaying and storing many bottles of wine. Arched niches, special finishes, stained glass and wine themed accents create an old-world atmosphere.
"The wine room was a unique project, complex in both design and workmanship," explains Murphy Bros. design/build expert Cherie Poissant. "It really shows off the talents of the Murphy Bros. carpenters. The layering of the materials to appear built into the stone walls is just one example of how sophisticated this design really was. The homeowners were really fun to work with and I know they will enjoy the room for years to come" concludes Poissant.
